Clean Your Own Dryer Vent .com is run by Alisa LeSueur, a Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician who has been in the field cleaning dryer vents for over 9 years starting with her own company, All Texas Top Hatters, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas.
Here is her story in her own words: "I was running a chimney sweep service for a friend who was unable to work when I cleaned my first dryer vent. The rush was great! To see all that lint coming out was like looking at a volcano! After the lint was removed and I left the house, the homeowner called my office to say that for the first time in over 3 years, his laundry was drying in less than 30 minutes. It had been taking over 2 hours for each load!
"I was hooked. I could help homeowners lower their electricity usage and extend the life of their dryers simply by cleaning their dryer vents.
"At the next chimney sweep convention, I started looking at the different dryer vent cleaning equipement packages being offered for sale. (I was a Certified Chimney Sweep at the time.) I chose the Pro-Spin which allowed me to easily feed the brush and rod system throught the bendiest dryer vents and do a great job for my clients. it cost over $600, but was the best system on the market at that event.
"My work was even easier with this new tool. I was able to finish my work sooner and did an even more thorough job.
Soon, the Chimney Safety Institute of America offered a 'Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician' program to help the general public identify a propery trained person to work in their homes. I ordered the training book and read it as soon as I got it. It had many details that I was not aware of.
"I was in the first certification class and was the first technician to finish my test. When I handed it in, I felt great! I knew that I had passed. I was going to be able to show my clients that I knew more than most of the other dryer vent cleaners in town. I was assigned the certification badge #14.
"Since then, I have closed my chimney sweep company and am concentrating on dryer vent cleaning. This is what I am doing now. I know that many homeowners can clean their own dryer vents and just need some direction to make sure that they are not creating a further problem. This is why I wrote and sell the 'You CAN Clean Your Own Dryer Vent' manual."
Alisa has since started DESSPI, the Dryer Exhaust System Service Professionals International, an organization that helps small business owners who want to offer dryer vent cleaning to their existing business, or start an exclusive dryer vent cleaning business.
